It’s summertime, and yesterday I was sitting with my cousin, reminiscing about our childhood summers in Somerville, TN. It took us back to the big Fourth of July celebrations we used to have and made me think about my grandmother, God rest her soul, whose birthday followed the Fourth on July 12th. Some of our Fav Childhood Memories was sitting on the back porch, eating a Huge piece of watermelon with my cousins, while we waited to cross the acre in between our homes and head over the Grandmas for the Big Finale Celebration. I miss those days. They were simpler times. My cousin talked about how my mom used to make this Watermelon 🍉 Boat full of every type of fruit you can imagine. And, I would always be buzzing with anticipation of wearing my new rainbow colored short set that my mother had hand sewn for a new outfit so me & my sister could be as cute as we could be at the gatherings.
Needles to say, growing up, the Fourth of July was a big deal at McFerren Farms in Somerville, TN. In addition to the family, which was pretty big, my Grandma would invite everybody & they momma to stop by as the rolled through our part of the highway that night, which might as well be known as ‘McFerren Hwy’, since we all lived on the same highway 🛣️ just multiple acres apart from one another….once you hit my Uncle John’s Gas ⛽️ & Grocery Store on the highway you knew you were in McFerren Territory 😂.
The town, with its small country quaint charm, would transform into a celebration of everything that summer meant, the smell of barbecue in the air, kids running around with sparklers, and fireworks lighting up the night sky. We’d gather as a family and enjoy a feast of home-cooked goodies. The sense of community was palpable, and there was a warmth that filled the summer nights.
We’d laugh, play games, and share stories as the fireworks dazzled above us. It was one of those simple joys of life where everything just felt right. Those Fourth of July celebrations were more than just a holiday—they were a tradition that brought us together.
What stands out to me now, as I look back, about my Grandmother’s Quiet Birthday, is how my Grandmother’s birthday was so different from the Fourth of July celebrations. Her birthday was on July 12th, and she never made a big deal out of it. For her, it wasn’t about the fanfare or the celebrations. It was about being with family, and that was enough for her.
She was always so selfless and centered around family. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be celebrated—it’s just that for her, the joy of our Fourth of July gatherings was the best gift she could ask for. She found happiness in our togetherness rather than in the spotlight.
The Legacy of Family and Tradition is so important to maintaining through the years as time goes by. My grandmother was the heart of our family celebrations. Her love for us and her way of putting family first were the true highlights of our time together. Those Fourth of July memories are a testament to her spirit. The joy of those celebrations was a reflection of the love she had for her family. She didn’t need grand gestures or big celebrations to feel cherished. Her presence and her quiet way of celebrating were enough.
As we reflect and enjoy this summer, it’s a great time to reflect on the traditions we have and the memories we’re creating. Whether it’s a big party or a simple gathering, it’s the moments we share with loved ones that matter most.
So as we light up the grill and watch the fireworks this year, let’s remember that it’s not just about the big celebrations. It’s about the connections we make and the love we share. Right here, on #McFerrenFarms is where ya girl learned to turn #penniestoprofits & begin #manifestingmillions. So, here’s to cherishing those Long Summer Nights and holding on to the memories that keep us close, while creating new ones that move us forward. Here at PTP, we’re wishing you all a joyful summer filled with meaningful moments and happy reflections!
With warm memories🙏🏼 in heart & mind, have a Safe Holiday & Summer!
